From the Pastor's Desk: Lent
The season of Lent is a season of self-sacrifice, a season to commemorate what’s etched in our memory about what Jesus endured for the redemption of our sins.
Beginning March 2, (Ash Wednesday), it is my prayer that every believer will commit themselves to a time of fasting (except Sundays) and praying for 40 days. This is a time of renewal and dedication of our Christian lifestyle, and an opportunity to strengthen your connection to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Through this time of self-sacrifice and renewal, we are looking forward to a moment of celebration that will take place Sunday, April 17th here at (CBC) Calvary Baptist Church of Allentown, when we rejoice in the resurrection of a loving Savior. How blessed we will be that day knowing that for the past 40 days we have joined in the sacrifices He made for us.
With God’s love and blessings, may your 40-day sacrifice be acceptable in His sight.
When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. -Matthew 6:16-18
